Yellow “Changans” – messengers of separation? For a crossover Changan CS55 ask from 1,269,000 rubles

Today it has become fashionable to launch a model without OTTS on the market. Changan also went along this path: a certificate from Rosstandart for the compact crossover CS55 in the Russian representative office should be received “before the end of this week.” That is, if you discard the weekend, this deadline will come tomorrow. In the meantime, there are 150 compact Changan CS55 crossovers brought from China in warehouses: they were cleared, but they cannot be put on sale for lack of OTTS. Today on the Russian consumer website Changan, along with information about prices for the new compact crossover CS55, discounts have also appeared. For example, both the representative office and the dealer pay for the trade-in branded program that allows you to save 80 thousand rubles, but, of course, not in the 50:50 ratio, but with a bias in the share of the representative office. It is hard to say how long these shares and nominal prices themselves will live, because already with the next batch of cars, which Changan will receive from China in 2020, the price tag may rise – the recycling fee raised by our government since January 1 is to blame.

The existing 150 cars, according to our interlocutor from the Changan representative office, are already half-painted by customers, the rest are planned to be shipped to dealers before the New Year. At the same time, it is in Changan that the increase in waste collection will hit most of all: firstly, the brand is only importing from China so far, and secondly, all models it has are B or C classes, which means that the waste collection will be “visible” at their price . Based on the current situation, the Russian office of Changan prepared two strategic plans. The first provides for a gradual, smooth increase in prices, avoiding large jumps. If at the same time the dealer network will expand, and sales, albeit slowly, but grow, the second plan will come into effect – preparation for the assembly of models in Russia.
In any case, Changan is currently conducting an active search for a partner production site, moreover, Russian plants and plants in the EAEU, which include Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia, are being considered. Actually, we can definitely name one Russian plant, which is not listed in Changan’s plans. This is the Haval enterprise, more precisely, the Khawale Motor Manufacturing Rus, opened in June this year in the Tula region. The reason is the very high price that Great Wall managers ask for contract assembly.
So, it seems to shove 150 cars at 80 dealers – a simple matter. Meanwhile, we noticed that in the first three quarters of this year, Changan has a very strong proportion between the “yellow” cars, that is, the shipped dealers, and the cars registered: two to one. From January to September 2019, the Russian representative office handed over 1 306 cars to dealers, while only 658 were registered. Of these, only 343 were produced in 2019. What about other Chinese brands? During the same period, Chery shipped 4,244 vehicles, 3,261 were registered, of which 1,652 were 2019 production years. Haval handed over 7,024 vehicles to dealers; 6,305 vehicles were registered, of which 5,355 were manufactured in 2019.
It may well be that the data on Chery and Haval should be considered only “in the context” of imported models, but something else is interesting here: of the 80 Changan dealers available today (last year, according to the representative office, there were only 22), only 20%, therefore, about 16 work postpaid. In theory, these are the most reliable sellers with a large turnover and a good history. Is it right to assume that it is these 16 dealers that generate 50% of “yellowness”? Alexander Kulagin, Sales and Development Director of Changan’s Russian office, believes this logic is wrong. Some cars go along the corporate line – for example, dealers themselves register them for consumer test drives and can delay registration for three months. Private traders also pull for several days. In addition, samples shipped to Kazakhstan, for obvious reasons, are not recorded in our traffic police databases, but they are set off against the representative office. And yet, against the background of competitors, the roll is too big.
At the presentation, we briefly examined two CS55 exhibits: the interior is well assembled, there are no obvious complaints about ergonomics, and the price-quality ratio is at a very competitive level – at least for now. With a wheelbase of 2 650 mm, there is enough space for knees in the second row – in any case, if a person taller than 180 cm sits “on his own.” The CS55 front-wheel drive crossover came to Russia with a 1.5-liter turbo engine of 143 hp. and traction 210 Nm at 2000-4000 rpm. In the basic version, for which they ask for 1,269,000 without discounts, the engine is paired with a manual 6-speed gearbox, and the Comfort package, among other things, includes an on-board computer with a 3.5-inch display, an electromechanical parking brake, air conditioning , 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system control display, 225/60 R17 alloy wheels, etc.
