The name Fiesta appeared in the European Ford line in 1976, but the decision to start developing a subcompact car, which should have been positioned as more compact and cheaper than the then popular Escort, was made back in 1972. From that moment, the model went a long evolutionary path, was noted on the rally tracks, changed a number of generations and became almost worldwide (its production was deployed in Germany, Spain, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, China, India and Russia). The car debuted in September 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where it was presented as a Ford Verve concept, and as early as next year, the novelty arrived at European and Russian dealerships. The basis of the model’s design was the global platform of Ford B. Its appearance was a further development of the proprietary concept of “kinetic design”, a number of components and systems were unified with the Ford Focus, however, unlike the bestseller, the Fiesta rear suspension was equipped with a simple and hardy torsion beam.

Under the hood were gasoline in-line “fours” with a volume of 1.25 liters and a capacity of 60 or 82 hp, 1.4 liters with a capacity of 96 hp, 1.6 liters per 120 hp, as well as 1.6 90-liter turbodiesel (which, however, was not in demand in Russia). The time-tested boxes could work together with them: a mechanical five-speed IB5 and a four-speed automatic 4F27E (another designation is FN4A-EL), with the latter equipped only with 1.4-liter engines. Both of these transmission options are familiar to owners of the second-generation Ford Focus and Mazda 3 of the respective release years.

It would seem that success in the Russian market is ensured: “a beautiful name, high honor”, ​​German assembly, excellent driving performance, good looks and price just below the popular Focus model. Actually, what else is needed? But it was precisely at that moment that Korean brands made themselves known loudly, and competition with them, especially in the context of the crisis that had begun, was not only beyond Fiesta’s power, but also Focus. The Koreans beat him at a price, and Fiesta – at a price, and capacity, and a great match with the status of the only car in the family. Fiesta went on the market rather slowly, sales fell steadily, and in 2012 only 970 cars were sold, that is, almost 40% less than in the previous 2011. And this is against the background of the completed depression and the general growth of the car market! Many automotive publications started talking about failure … In general, in January 2013, Ford management decided that “this is not a fight, and this is not the result”, and stopped importing the model.

The second coming of Fiesta took place in 2015, when it had already undergone restyling. This time it was decided to bet on the local assembly. Production was localized at the plant in Naberezhnye Chelny. In addition to the hatchback, the Russians were offered a sedan designed specifically for the Chinese market, and in Europe this version was never sold.

The range of powertrains was reduced to one engine in three forcing options: a 1.6-liter Duratec engine with 82, 105 and 120 hp. production of the Russian Federation. As a result, the status of the popular Fiesta model did not reach, although it remained on sale until Ford decided to curtail the production of cars in Russia. Nevertheless, in the secondary market, relatively few Fiesta have very high liquidity and are sold quickly enough. Experts attribute this to the fact that within the target audience there will always be buyers-connoisseurs who want to be “not like everyone else.”

As for the prices, the pre-styling Fiesta collected in Cologne is sold today at a price of 250-300 thousand rubles (for cars with a 96-horsepower engine, manual gearbox and mileage of about 100-150 thousand km) to 430-450 thousand for cars with automatic 1.4-liter engine or with manual gearbox and a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter unit. For younger cars of the Russian assembly they ask from 430 to 750 thousand rubles.

Oddly enough, the relatively low sales of Fiesta did not affect the general tone of reviews on the Internet. The model in them is evaluated mainly positively, although, of course, the owners do not circumvent sharp corners and complain about the existing shortcomings. So what do they praise, and what do they criticize?

On the one hand, a person buying a segment B car initially understands that he is buying a vehicle of very modest size. On the other hand, designers most often strive to make a baby “inside more than outside.” But the creators of the Ford Fiesta clearly had slightly different priorities … As a result, in the overwhelming majority of reviews, the cramped interior is mentioned among significant shortcomings, and most often Fiesta is blamed for the tightness in the second row.
