Changes in traffic rules that everyone is waiting for

The need for large-scale revision of the Rules of the road is being discussed more and more often. We wrote about this.

And in the expert center of Probok.net, we prepared a list of specific proposals, placing them in a colorful album, our editorial staff also reviewed it.

In the introductory part, we can subscribe to every word! The cameras have become a source of income, compliance with traffic rules does not guarantee the driver safety and the absence of fines, because the rules are partly outdated, partly contrary to reality. The reasons for a significant part of the accidents are called outdated standards, which are still used in the design of roads.
We unequivocally support the calls to put fewer road signs on the roads and to minimize the time for completing accidents. True, about the latter – it is addressed to insurers. For them, any client is a rogue by default, and therefore must be overlaid with a bunch of pieces of paper proving that this is not so.

The proposal to narrow the lanes on roads to three meters in Moscow has not yet proved its effectiveness: throughput seems to be increasing, but speed is decreasing due to a feeling of tightness. In our opinion, it is possible to introduce three-meter lanes only in cities and with markings on the road. Outside megacities, it is often absent for months.

Speed ​​in the city – 50 km / h? This offer is not new. In combination with the discussed reduction of the threshold of non-fines over 10 km / h, we obtain flow inhibition from 80 to 60 km / h. For European and small Russian cities – suitable. For Moscow, with its abundance of wide highways, no. An idea has the right to life, but only after a thorough analysis of the road network. However, in this case, drivers will receive a bunch of different restrictions within the metropolis (from 40 to 80 km / h) and will be forced even more often to look at signs instead of the road. Safety is down, but cameras are up.

The same phrase can be used to characterize the call to build more pedestrian crossings and allow a right turn into a red light. Moscow (and after it, there is no doubt, other cities will follow) actively sets up monitoring cameras for pedestrian zebras. Each transition not regulated by a traffic light is a potential fine and a source of traffic jams due to drivers who are afraid to get a “letter of happiness”. But at other crossings the flow of people in some hours does not stop.
