And no more boards: tuning the Infiniti G25

Almost all of the tuning projects that we talked about recently included a large-scale refinement of the equipment – a motor swap, boost installation, increased eversion, suspension replacement … But sometimes, to achieve the desired result, less effort is needed, but more diligence and accuracy. As the practice of stans projects shows, even perfectly fitting the arches into the gap between the tire and the disk can also take several years.
Purchase history
The beginning of the story of this Infiniti G25 sounds classic: at the starting point, there was no idea of improvements, or even plans to buy this particular model. Igor, the current owner, was looking for an Audi A5 or Lexus IS250 coupe, but decent options did not fit his budget. After another forwarding through the sites of free classified ads, he came across Infiniti, which attracted with a combination of appearance, interior and a 2.5-liter V6 with 220 hp. A personal meeting with the car confirmed the purchase intentions, but raising funds and searching for the best option took another 4 months – and in 2016 a sedan with a low mileage, one entry in the TCP and without problems was excluded, excluding minor bodywork flaws. The further story is even more obvious: a stans exhibition, bright cars with wide wheels, littered deep into the arches, and no restrictions on style, model and self-realization.

Outside
A set of external improvements, not counting the wheels, is minimalistic. The bumpers underwent light shaving: they removed the “extra” holes, leaving, however, parking sensors and headlight washers. The front bumper, in addition, was supplemented by a “lip”, and the sills – overlays. An interesting decision was made about the roof of the trunk: it was decorated with a “ducktail”, but it was not just installed, but integrated into the lid, growing them into a single piece. They did not sacrifice convenience here either: not only a rear-view camera, but also a trunk opening button remained on the lid.

But the most striking detail of the exterior, which sets the tone for the entire project, is, of course, wheels. The search for the best option took three years, but now Igor believes that he has found his ideal: these are 19-inch Work Seeker wheels 10 inches wide at the front and 11 inches at the rear, with a reach of -19 and -12, respectively. Tires – dimensions 215/35 in the front and 235/35 in the rear: this is the option of tires that made it possible to tighten the disc and precisely lay the arch in the space between the tire and the disc in the lower position of the air suspension.

Inside
Leather interior in the color “hazelnut” non-factory: the interior was altered after the installation of the rare sports front seats Recaro Sportster CS, the mounts of which were made for the G25 again. At a Japanese auction, the NRG Innovations steering wheel with adapter and quick-mount was bought, as well as four-point Z.S.S. seat belts. The installation of belts required the installation of a cross-strut behind the front seats (the so-called harness bar) manufactured by the same NRG Innovations, which was found in the USA.

Equipment
Technical improvements expectedly affected only the suspension and brake system, without affecting the power unit. After a long search and operation of various options, Igor came to air suspension as the optimal solution for daily operation. The suspension is assembled on Blitz racks, the valve block and control are AccuAir, the compressors are VIAIR 400, the AVS aluminum receiver is 19 liters, the pillows are Air Lift. Of course, the custom suspension arms are adjustable. Initially, when adjusting the suspension, the body rested on the upper arm, because of which a decision was made, including shortening the knuckles by 30 mm. The camber is quite aggressive: -12 degrees in front and -13.5 in the rear.
The brake system installed on this G25 is from JBT: these are composite brake discs with a diameter of 355 mm on the front axle, as well as 6-piston brakes at the front and 4-piston at the rear. The direct-flow exhaust from a 63-mm pipe with Subaru Blitz Nur Spec complements the image.

Ownership experience

Three years of ownership of the machine were years of constant refinement, search, trial and error. The appearance of 19-inch wheels on the car was the first step into the abyss: the car was too high. At first, adjustable racks decided this question, but work on the suspension just started … It was time to change several sets of wheels, replace the aluminum front subframe, repeatedly repair the wings and try on many sets of springs. The static suspension entailed not only the desired style, but also a lot of inconvenience: it happened that Igor could not get off the MKAD due to the asphalt removed during the repair, it happened that he hung on speed bumps, collecting a traffic jam … Two years away “Static” with a clearance of 3-4 cm to the stretcher was taught to choose the path in advance and carry boards in the trunk to overcome speed bumps. But in the end, Igor came to air suspension as a universal solution: now – no boards!

P.S. And, it seems, no improvements: summing up the story, Igor confidently said: “The car finally looks exactly the way I would like to see it.”
