Civic is the undisputed best seller. It was with the advent of this model that Honda was learned as a manufacturer of not only motorcycles, but also cars. Historically, Honda has been targeting the North American market, but the Civic has been selling pretty well all over the world. The release of the eighth generation Civic forced Toyota to postpone the release of the next Corolla – it took hastily to make changes to the design.
Indeed, Honda managed to create a unique design that appealed to a wide audience – a sedan for the “classics” and a hatchback for the “futurists”. Continue reading
How can it be difficult to replace candles if you do not have a V6, a V8 or an opposer? Learn from Honda to design engine compartments and complicate the ignition system … Problems in Jazz come from where you don’t expect. And where do you expect (for example, from the variator), everything is relatively good there. We continue the story of the reliability of the first generation – the previous part with a description of the problems of the body, interior and electrics is here.
Brakes, suspension and steering
Front disc brakes have served all their 10 years before the planned bulkhead calipers. Resource discs and pads are usually 50+, even with a CVT. Here are the rear drum brakes sometimes fail. Not because the design is bad, they just forget about their maintenance, and the wear and corrosion of the fasteners of the pads over time lead to a “chatter” of pads and their displacement from their places. Often everything ends with the replacement of the drum and the entire filling – the flown block usually grinds everything into dust, including the brake cylinder. Continue reading
However, those who want a crossover with an automatic transmission will also not be disappointed: this is an old and four-stage, but delightfully reliable Aisin U140. Given in addition that it can work with engines up to 3 liters, and the maximum available engine in RAV4 has only 2.4, the box does not work at its limits. True, off-road rides, coupled with poor service, can easily compensate for this “oversight,” and there were plenty of the first and second in the life of many crossovers. It’s hard to get the box before 250-300 thousand, although control electronics failures may occur earlier, and the wear of the torque converter lock plates depends on the riding style. However, from a mechanical point of view, the resource, provided that the oil is replaced every 60-80 thousand, can exceed 350 thousand kilometers. It’s only unconditionally to believe in this reliability is too late: given the age of the machines, all the boxes have probably survived at least one intervention, and it is absolutely impossible to study the history of service after 15-20 years.
